Committee Members’ reports:
Chairs’ Report
Welcome to the 2026 AGM for MPSLSC. I would like to offer the itinerary for this evening’s meeting held at the air ambulance base. The plan is for the opening remarks by myself and a very brief report as the chair. Last years minutes will need to be ratified by the membership as true and correct. I would then like to call on the elected officers to give their respective reports for the past year. Upon completion of that process I would like to turn to the floor and enquire if there are any members of the club that would like to stand for the officers positions for this coming year. If there are no nominees then I will propose that the entire committee be re-elected upon block and if that is carried that will remain for the next 18 months. If a nominee/s does exist then the positions the individual wishes to be considered for will be competed upon openly and fairly with formal nominations and votes to establish who will be elected for this coming season.
Upon election of officers the chair will call upon a select number to the committee to offer plans for this coming year. Positions to report will be the club house representative, the treasures requirements, the club captains requirements and the youth representative.
After these reports the chair will open the floor to any other business and address items as required. Existing chairs report. I am delighted to have been part of, and a founding member of MPSLSC. This is for a number of reasons to numerous to list.
However, I would like to look at the fantastic work that so many of you have achieved this year. We have grown from a concept only 2 years ago to a position where we have a developing premises with granted planning permission, a funding team that are second to none in my opinion, a strong core dedicate membership with on-going training and personal development and a flourishing youth development program. All of which are protected by our safeguarding team, qualified Lifeguards and first aiders. This is turn has made MPSLSC a strong recognisable effective and professional organisation to the outside world.
As current chair I have had managers of the RNLI, county council, local council, Police, Coastguard and even SLSGB tell me how impressed they are with what you, the membership and committee are achieving and have achieved this past year. As the newest SLSGB club, we need to remember how far we have come and the way we are getting there and you all deserve my deepest gratitude and thinks for that.
We have been involved with rescues, resuscitations, patrols, given advice, prevented drownings and had fun all on top of our other core activities. I also wanted to thank a number of local organisations, individuals and charities for supporting us and backing us. Without this support, we would no be able achieve what we have. I believe it important to minute our thanks to these people.
I hope that the next year builds upon are results thus far and with the incredible exciting times ahead I strongly believe MPSLSC will be one of the leading SLS clubs in the country.

Safeguarding Officers’ Report
AGM
As Safeguarding Officers, our primary objective is to ensure that all members of Mawgan Porth Surf Life Saving Club are safe at all times and are treated fairly, respectfully and equally. We are committed to maintaining an environment that is inclusive, supportive and free from bullying or inappropriate behaviour.
Over the past year, we have formalised and strengthened our safeguarding framework. A full Safeguarding Policy has been developed and is available on the club website, alongside a concise aide-mémoire outlining key protocols for members.
These protocols include specific guidance for junior and nipper members to ensure clarity of expectations and appropriate safeguarding measures across all age groups. We delivered a full club safeguarding training session last year and have scheduled a further safeguarding and welfare refresher evening for all members on 1 April.
Ongoing training remains a priority to ensure all volunteers, coaches and helpers understand their responsibilities and feel confident in raising or responding to any concerns. Carrie continues to remain up to date with safeguarding guidance and requirements from SLSGB, ensuring the club remains compliant with national standards and best practice.
We are pleased to report that: There have been no safeguarding complaints during the year. DBS applications are up to date and ongoing where required. We now have a growing number of DBS-checked parent helpers supporting the club. We are always keen to welcome additional parent helpers. Anyone interested in supporting the club in this way is encouraged to contact Carrie or Sarah so the DBS process can be initiated.
The club continues to foster a friendly and supportive culture. We would like to extend sincere thanks to all volunteers and helpers who give their time so generously — their contribution is essential to maintaining a safe and positive environment for all members.
In addition to safeguarding responsibilities, work has also been undertaken to improve internal communications. Weekly updates are now issued to keep members informed of events and training, and efforts are ongoing to coordinate junior, nipper and adult training rotas effectively. This ensures appropriate supervision ratios are maintained and that sessions remain safe, structured and enjoyable.
Fundraising has also remained an important focus, including involvement in the successful Christmas event at Retorrick, where preparation and coordination of musicians contributed to a very well-received evening. Safeguarding remains at the heart of everything we do, and we will continue to review and strengthen our processes to ensure the highest standards are maintained across the club
Nippers Officer Report
MPSLS continues to provide a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where local children and parents can come together to develop their surf lifesaving skills.
Over the past year, our Nippers programme has grown significantly – not only in participation numbers but also in the confidence and ability of our young members. We have also expanded our club activities to include the junior group, currently completing their lifeguard qualifications this winter.
This initiative will further strengthen our club by increasing the number of trained lifeguards within our community. Training sessions take place at both the beach and the pool, and our Nippers are now preparing to undertake their pathway awards, which recognise their knowledge, skills, and water competence.
It has been a privilege to be involved with the club since its inception, and it is incredibly rewarding to see the progress and development of our young members. In addition to our training achievements, we have had a successful year of fundraising. A sponsored swim raised £1,000, and a fundraising evening featuring raffles and live music generated a further £2,000 in support of the club
Adult Trainer Report
Mawgan Porth surf life saving club 2025/2026
Another great year with consistent turnout to the weekly adult training sessions. We have seen an increase in attendance on the previous year which is very positive .
The pool sessions at Trevelgue have also been well attended and thanks to Joe Brown and Aaron Boylan for their organising and enthusiasm each week! Pete Abell has been running a monthly lifeguard training. This has taken place throughout the winter in the village hall after our monthly committee meeting. This has been attended by people who are looking to advance their training and gain new awards.
The beach sessions are a great success as well, with a consistent group turning up week in, week out from April – October. These sessions consist of beach lifeguard skills, waterskills, first aid training and beach fitness. These beach training has been mainly run by a handful of people. Carrie Joe Scotty Pete Jeremy Timmy. Many thanks to you all.
Going forward, to keep running the beach programme we are going to need more members leading these sessions. It is a big commitment for just a few people. Can members please let me know their availability to run a few sessions over the summer. Tim Walker has kindly made us a rota for the adult sessions and it would be great to get the beach session rota sorted out in the next month.
Equipment Officer
I’m Mark Hampson and I have responsibility for keeping the Mawgan Porth SLSC equipment in a serviceable condition and the equipment inventory up to date.
In the last year or so I have carried out numerous fibreglass repairs to the rescue boards, nipper boards etc. keeping them water tight and reattaching several handles. I’ve made rescue board fins where needed and done all of this at my own expense as a way of giving back to the community. As of about two weeks ago when I last checked all the equipment in our store is serviceable.
The meeting closed 8.15pm with a vote of thanks to our chairman Jeremy.
